I am a dentist (Bachelor’s of Dental Surgery) from Karnataka, India. As my internship was nearing an end I was in two minds to pursue clinical masters or venture into a completely new field related to Clinical Research (a change of heart courtesy to the pandemic of 2020). Half mindedly scrolling LinkedIn worked in my favour as I came across the course for Drug Safety and Pharmacovigilance by Medipharm Solutions.
Two months into the certificate program and I am glad to share it has been a great decision. I would like to explain in three major ways how this course has resonated with me.
THE SIMPLICITY
In spite of studying medicine and dentistry for 5 years – the term ‘Pharmacovigilance’ seemed intimidating at first. The truth however was far from it. The mentor Dr Abhishek assured and took the classes in the most simplistic way. As newer words like MedDRA, SUSAR, E2B Transmission kept adding to my dictionary in a systematic low dose but efficient format – I enjoyed and learnt the general idea of drug safety easily. Einstein said, “If you can’t explain it simply, you haven’t understood it well enough”. Well the team at Medipharm solutions did explain it simply and well enough.
THE STRUCTURE
The contents of Drug Safety for a newbie are designed in clean forty modules or so. Each with their own written material, live recorded videos and quiz in objective and subjective format. At any given point if I was losing the understanding of Case Processing or couldn’t place the different types of cases reported – I could just go back to the titled module and refresh my memory. Another point to note about the structure, is how it does not overwhelm you with a surplus of information at once. Starting from the basics of why the need, what roles and responsibilities you would need to perform, what’s the importance of safety databases – all these questions get answered in the live sessions (classes) and soon enough all the information about Drug Safety comes together to make sense to you.
THE INTERVIEW PREPARATION
Within each session and the module, theoretical as well as applied practical information is shared. This comes in handy while preparing for interviews. The highlight is while learning about the different aspects in Pharmacovigilance you also get tuned to the interview experience. Before you realise, you are well versed in the theory and the hands-on practical knowledge. The interview questions are updated regularly derived from the insights offered by other job aspirants and the team of Drug Safety Personnels at Medipharm Solutions who are also long time insiders of the industry. While the interview experience can be daunting and confusing, finding a mentor from this field along with the ready-to-help team at Medipharm Solutions, it can soothe your nerves and help you land the job of your purpose.
